NEMA warns heavy snow and snow storms

Mongolia’s National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring has warned today (20 November) heavy snow, blizzards and cold air expected to hit large parts of Mongolia this week.

Throughout this week starting Tuesday, heavy snow and snow storms will sweep eastern, southern and western provinces of the country.

In addition, overnight temperatures are expected to drop to minus 32 degrees Celsius across large parts of the country this week.

The agency warned the public, especially nomadic herders and drivers, to take extra precautions against possible disasters.

Earlier, eight herders were killed when heavy snow and blizzards hit large parts of the Asian country.

Around 60 percent of the country’s territory has so far been covered by snow.

Mongolia’s climate is strongly continental, with long and frigid weathers.
